Formerly known as Tre Visi, the Mitchell Block is under new management. It seems to have dropped it’s air of pretension – I remember going there and for some reason our choice of tap water over sparkling or flat bottled mineral water was met with small sniff of distain. That’s ok, it just meant I never went back.

I started following The Mitchell Block on instagram and couldn’t stop obsessing over their delicious looking food. We knew we had to order the bison carpacio. It came with “beef crackers” and delicious salty capers. One thing that hasn’t changed since their Tre Visi days is their bread. I remember it being so delicious the first time we went that we asked for seconds, and this time was no different. The dots of balsamic on top of the butter were perfect. I was a little disappointed at the entree selection. I had hoped they would be a little more creative like the bison carpaccio, but it’s understandable if they’re attempting a balancing act of retaining their previous opera-going customers and trying to attract the new ones.

I can say I will definitely be going back to try their Fisherman’s punch. A giant fishbowl of alcoholic punch that we were told tastes like peach ice tea served in their lounge.

Where we could be…

This wanderlust that’s hit me has morphed into something insatiable. I find myself looking through travel sites, and gorgeous places all around the world. Wishing, willing myself to be there. But I can’t.
And it’s turned into this incredible frustration. Frustration because I’ve been set back another semester due to incompetency. Frustrated because I’m stuck where I am, and I feel like I’ll always be stuck where I am. Frustrated because even after I’m done school, which is what is holding me back at the moment, I have even more schooling left. Schooling that I’m not even sure I want to continue in.
This year has been one of the most frustrating. It has left me drained and unsure. I don’t know if this is what I want to pursue anymore. I’ve lost my passion and direction. Or rather, my passion is still there, but I’m not entirely sure if it’s enough to keep me going for another 7 years while I go through school.

Summer is nigh

The weather has been slowly, slowly warming. We had some false starts which ended with blizzards and piles of snow being heaped upon us, but it has all melted, and the season of pot-hole craters and construction has begun. With it, I hope, comes warmer weather.

I’m already planning my summer and what I hope to accomplish. Recently, with my plans being ruined and finding out that I have an additional two months of summer with nothing to do (which I’ll pay for later with an extra four months of classes). I’ve decided that I’m going to enjoy these months and do as much as I can. I just haven’t decided what the “doing” will entail.

I am looking forward to a end of the summer trip to Calgary. I get to see my little cousins and visit more family, which is great since there aren’t many left in Winnipeg.

I’m also planning on visiting each and every drive-in that Winnipeg has to offer. I’ve already hit up one of them, the Red Boot Drive-In and the food was delicious. The fries, their specialty, are amazing and I’m definitely going back for more!
